Why We Exist
Red light therapy is a $1.2 billion market projected to reach $3.4 billion by 2030. It's also one of the most confusing consumer health categories on the internet. Marketing claims are extravagant. "Clinical studies" are often manufacturer-funded and poorly designed. Review manipulation on Amazon is rampant. And most "review sites" are just affiliate marketplaces ranking products by commission rate, not actual quality.
We built RedLightTherapyGuide.com to be different. Our rankings are driven by aggregate review data from verified purchasers, cross-referenced with peer-reviewed clinical research and independent community testing. We don't accept free products. We don't have manufacturer relationships. We don't rank products by affiliate payout.
Our Methodology
Every product recommendation on this site follows the same rigorous process:
- Data collection. We aggregate every verified purchase review from Amazon for each device in our analysis, along with relevant discussions from Reddit communities (r/redlighttherapy, r/Biohackers, r/SkincareAddiction), YouTube grooming/health channels, and dedicated RLT forums.
- Weighting. Verified purchase reviews receive 3× the weight of unverified reviews. Reviews written 90+ days after purchase receive 2× weight (long-term outcome data is more valuable than first-impression reviews). Reviews with specific, measurable outcome claims receive additional weight over vague sentiment.
- Cross-referencing. We compare buyer-reported outcomes against published clinical research. If a device claims to be effective for skin rejuvenation, we check whether its wavelength, irradiance, and recommended protocol match the parameters used in successful clinical trials.
- Independent testing. Where available, we reference irradiance measurements from community members using calibrated power meters (ThorLabs, Ophir). These crowd-sourced tests provide ground truth that manufacturer specifications sometimes don't.
- Transparency. We show our data. Every product review includes specific percentages, review counts, and the exact signals we used to rank it. You can evaluate our reasoning, not just our conclusions.
How We Make Money
RedLightTherapyGuide.com earns revenue through the Amazon Associates affiliate program. When you click a product link and make a purchase on Amazon, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is the standard model for review sites.
What's different about us: our product rankings are determined before affiliate links are added. We rank by data, then add purchase links to the products that ranked highest. We never adjust rankings based on commission rates, and we include non-affiliated informational articles (like our Red vs NIR comparison) that contain zero affiliate links.
What We Don't Do
- Accept free or discounted products from manufacturers
- Publish sponsored content or paid placements
- Rank products by commission rate or affiliate payout
- Make medical claims — we report what the research says and what buyers experienced, not diagnoses or prescriptions
- Pretend to have tested these products in a lab — we're data analysts, not a testing facility
